How to find the right rectifier

The schematic below should help the planning user to find out the right DC supply. 

It is really simple to follow this schematic. It startsabove at the right side with the definition of the process itself. This predertermines automatically which current and which voltage are necessary. All boundary parameters are parallelly mentioned on the left side.

As shown in another schematic, the degree of protectioncan be found. Also here, some fundamental reflections have to be made, e.g.concerning ambient conditions, fresh air supply or separate rooms.

From the cooling modes one version has to be selected.Here the output current serves as leading figure. If water as cooling mode ispossible, this is recommended.

The most important decision is taken with the selectionof the possible power control. From the start, switching mode power supplies have an uncritical ripple. When selecting the version with thyristor, onceagain the process has to be observed to decide upon the ripple.

From the environmental point of view it has to beconsidered, if oil still is the right cooling mode for the user. Highefficiency and acceptable mains conduct have to be considered with regard toenergy technics.

A high degree of utilization, e.g. at multi shiftoperation, requires a design which is easy to service to realize short downtimes in case of maintenance.

Before the rectifier can be defined, first the mode ofoperation has to be selected: pulse operation, polarity reverse operation,rectifier operation. Here it has to be observed, if e.g. a chrome rectifierwith polarity reverse corrode/chrome is necessary. Or if for an ED coatingrectifier further technical options have to be included.

Another important criterion for decisions is the budgetavailable or the financial limit where technical points of view may fallthrough.

Independently from the schematic, the control methodshave to be mentioned.
